The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is needed by most graduate students who wish to study in the US for non-business fields such as Engineering and Arts. The GRE is a computer adaptive test.
The overall testing time for the GRE General Test is about three hours and 45 minutes, plus short breaks. There are six sections: one Analytical Writing section, two Verbal Reasoning sections, two Quantitative Reasoning sections, one unscored section that may be a Verbal or Quantitative section and an identified research section that is not scored.
The highest score achievable on the new GRE is 340. The score range for both the quantitative and verbal reasoning sections is 130-170.
The Analytical writing section will always be first, while the other five sections may appear in any order.
